Background

Computer Harpoon was derived from the original Harpoon paper rules game. Think Dungeons & Dragons (tm) for naval warfare. It was originally designed back in the 1970's as an ASW training tool but eventually developed into a all aspect of naval warfare.

The current edition of the minatures is Harpoon4.1 and are maintained by Larry Bond with help from Chris Carlson.

Sample Game

Here are some pictures of game held at Origins 2005 in Columbus Ohio:

Scenario: Soviets move into Cuba in 1982. Diplomats are engaged, forces meet in the Florida Straights. Note: Key West has been moved for game purposes.

Soviet orders: "Comrade, we will stay with our Cuban brothers, regardless of what the American think. Let them feel the discomfort of having us near their shores".

US Orders: Re-enforce Gitmo.

Status at game time limit: Soviets immediately illumnated the US Gator Fleet with Hormone B's and engaged with MiG27's armed with 48 xASM-12. Of the first 32, one got through and due to some extreme (let me repeat EXTREME) luck, USS California suffers a magazine explosion in a 5" mount and goes down (ahem, it went "up"). In the air - 16 more AS-12's, 16 SSM-12's, 20 SSM-19's and a few SSM-2C's.
