New In Game Features

New Manual

As demonstrated in this Wiki, Team Harpoon, plus Harpoon HQ staff, have been busy adding their cummulative knowledge to our Wiki. Matrix then took all of that information and created a stylish, well edited, PDF manual on the CD/download. An Advanced Manual will be shipped with the Database Editors in July 2006

Multiplayer feature

Main article: H3C:Beta_MP

Harpoon 3 ANW also features the possibility to play against other humans on a LAN or via the internet. During the community beta we invite you to the #harps betatesting IRC channel. (If this link doesn't work for you please manually join the #harps channel on the gamesurge IRC network). Participating players can communicate through an in-game chat system.

VCR feature

Main article: H3C:Beta VCR

In Harpoon 3 ANW we have added a VCR feature that will allow you to record the games you play and replay all the action while taking the viewpoint of the various sides involved in the scenario. In order to activate the VCR feature open the Harpoon 3 Launcher and check the "Activate VCR" field. VCR files will be saved to the Scenarios folder of the active database and can be loaded through the "VCR Playback" button after starting the Single Player executable.

This feature does not allow you to restart a game, it is "Read Only".

Window Schemes

In Harpoon 3 ANW you now have the ability to arrange the windows to your liking and then save that configuration so you can load it again in the next scenario you play.

New folder structure

Harpoon 3 ANW includes a new folder structure. In connection with the Harpoon 3 Launcher this new folder structure will allow the players to keep track of which scenarios belong to which database and to switch between databases without any effort or having to manually edit the harpoon3.ini file. For additional information about using 3rd party databases and scenarios please take a look at the Harpoon 3 FAQ.

New Matrix Serial number registration

Harpoon 3 ANW also features an enhanced registration mechanism that will hopefully eliminate all registration problems that people were having. For the community beta all customers with lok/kee files will be able to continue using this method and all people with eSellerate serial numbers can request trade in their eSellerate serial number for a new Matrix Serialnumber here.

New speed/accuracy settings

With the Harpoon 3 Launcher players can now configure Harpoon 3 to calculate an engagement more accurately (although this will slow down performance).

New Harpoon 3 Launcher application

Harpoon 3 ANW also features the new Harpoon 3 Launcher application that will allow youto set ALL preferences options without ever having to edit the harpoon3.ini file or moving other files around. Additionally the Launcher includes a database manager that will allow you to select the database you want to play with before starting Harpoon 3. For more information about this GUI frontend for all preferences settings please see the Harpoon 3 Launcher article.

Databases and Scenarios

Our Original Database (ODB) has been updated to become H4DB and while a work in progress supports 2006 era combat including 6 new Multiplayer scenarios designed from the ground up for H3 ANW. The ODB/H4DB will be shipped with the game. See the Database listing below:

DB2000

1965-1979 Database
The DB65-79 covers a time when the Soviet Navy was beginning to emerge as a global force. At the same time Western navies were shrinking in size as they retired their ex world war two vessels and entered the missile age. During this period wars in general were fairly easy to start thanks to the extreme tensions of the Cold War and the complex web of alliances that existed. The DB65-79 is being continuously updated and at this time contains the vast majority of warships, aircraft, submarines and weapons that were in use during this time.
